My full name is Ashli White. I'm 30...And I'm an Art Teacher! I am creating this blog to start a new chapter in my life. Before I begin I’ll recap my previous chapters. Well I’m only gonna go back a few… Was there a collage chapter? Yes, Moore College of Art & Design graduating in 2008 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a teaching certificate for Art K-12. That was fun…, staying up all night to get the sculpture, painting or welds done by the morning. Luckily, I had my (now husband) visiting me and believing in my artwork! Wedding? Yup, wrote that chapter. 08/08/08 was my Wedding day. He can’t forget our anniversary date!  Kids? Yup, two! One boy, now 7 years old, one girl now 6 years old. They rock my world and I learn from them everyday. Job? Still writing that one, aren’t we all? I’ve been teaching Art for nine years now. Currently in Philadelphia Public School District, Which is part of what drove me to go back to my goal.

 So what’s this chapter about? Well, I’m back on my journey to finish my Master’s in Education with a Principal Certification. I started this journey years ago, in 2009, but my plans were averted as my family formed and grew. I stopped grad school and started raising my son, and daughter and as my classrooms changed buildings and my family changed houses. I decided to go back to this journey and start this chapter again. Glad your on my journey with me.

    I was pregnant with my 4th baby when I went to a doctor's appointment on 08/07/08. She wanted to induce me but said she couldn't do it the next day because EVERYONE wanted a c-section that day so their babies could have the birth date- 08/08/08. I had to wait until the hospital cleared out and my son was born on 08/11/08.

    With 4 kids, I definitely know what it is like to put your career/education on hold to start a family.

How it all started...

           I am creating this blog to start a new chapter in my life. Hopefully I'll chat about things that happen that day or week at school and hopefully you will give me feedback or just pure motivation to keep blogging.       I’ve been teaching Art for nine years now. I live in NJ, but currently I've returned back to the Philadelphia Public School District, Which is part of what drove me to go back to reaching my goal.      Through my years as an educator, I have taught Art both 2D and 3D Fine Art, Ceramics, Graphic Design with and without technology directly in my classroom. From the simplest of materials, and not a single computer in my classroom, trying to teach Art by writing on a blackboard with chalk (yes this is my current placement). Though I've also had 33 computers, smart board and large color printer, 3D printer, a t-shirt machine and a decal maker.  Boy do I miss those things.       I was reading  Hacking Project Based Learning  which is showing  a free webinar June 15, since our school is transforming next school year into a blended learning environment. I was searching things I can prepare for over the summer, and as I feel like I currently do most of these things, there are so many technologies that could be in my classroom that would help me achieve student based learning. I feel my principal falls short in this aspect when I don't even have a projector/ printer/ or student computers for my classes to even look at Art in color!! How are we going to go from straight chalk board classes to even close to technology implementation and project based learning in this building without a fight?  I feel like she need this video..       Tom Murray's blog I feel is more educational in its form.
